For me, Halloween is one of my favorite times and seasons to celebrate. However, I am a loyal fear fanatic the entire calendar year. I wait with anticipation to pick out colored mums, cart up the numerous tubs of fall décor from the basement and get to carve Jacko -lanterns for the front porch. I transition from autumn garlands to skeletons and gargoyles. The spookier the theme the better. Even though, I still sleep with a night light and won’t look up into the mirror when I’m washing my face for bed. I anxiously wait for the Halloween cinematic adventures on television each evening for the duration of October. Unfortunately, there is only one thing stopping me from the rocky horror escapades I so desperately want to indulge in is my ever-so curious 6 yr. old.

We work hard on bedtime routines and sticking to a time schedule so once she is fast asleep, I have the liberty of watching whatever glamorously gory film I desire. I must wait to turn on frightening flicks that would cause any hindering of retiring with nightmares or boogeyman sightings from behind the door. Another unexpected factor to my freaky film freedom is not to underestimate your child’s sense of smell. The buttery aroma of freshly popped popcorn will awake any juvenile from a deep slumber.
Alas, a fantastic idea of venturing out to the local picture show would solve all problematic issues at home. But wait, a sitter needed, child out of bedtime routine and let’s not forget our never-ending attachment tantrum productions. I’ll just stay home and wait 45 plus minutes so she is fast asleep and hold the remote in my hand for a quick pause or mute button push in case I hear the pitter of footsteps coming down the stairs. It’s just easier, for her. B00-Hoo.
